Nextbase NB48AM For Portable Movie Watching

I still remember the day when Walkman is a ‘must have gadget’ for teenagers. Well, it’s something like iPhone and iPad hype where everyone seems to be talking about it. Though Walkman can only play cassettes with limited playback time, I must say it was one hell of a creation back then. As the technology moves forward, Minidisc and Discman were introduced to the market and not long ago, mobile phones has become the replacement as a single device that could play almost anything from MP3 to MPEG4 movies.NextBase NB48AM

The NextBase NX48AM is one example of a media player that still exist though struggling to survive in the world of iPads and Androids. Many has failed to maintain their existence but could NextBase survive?. The DVD twin screen player has an exceptional reason on why it could survive and has its own unique features that cannot be found in other players. Its 7″ screen is intended for better viewing even when you are travelling. It comes with a rechargable battery pack in the master player that could last for 2 hours non-stop playback.

However, if you are going for ‘movie marathon’ just to kill the time before reaching your destination, then you may need to plug the supplied cable to the cigarette socket in your car for continuous power supply. But you can always save the power by playing movie directly from SD Card. Unlike DVD player, the SD memory card doesn’t have moving mechanism to playback the movie, thus you could stretch the power.

With its 480 x 234 pixel wide angle screen, I would say that this is one of the best portable DVD player to watch movie while on the the move.

Microsoft Debuts Windows 8

Microsoft unveils Windows, one of its latest operating system during one of the tech conferences in Taipei and in the United States. Microsoft, the world’s biggest software company, is set to launch the new OS, which we supposed will be named Windows 8. One of the highlights of this new system is the touch screen features that is fully optimized and made especially for tablet computer.

During one of the demonstrations in the D9 tech conferences in California and Taipei, the big people in Microsoft shoes how a phone software can be manipulated by swiping and pressing the screen. You guess it right, the Windows 8 installed on smart phones and tablets ought to give the iPad and the iPhone some serious competition.

Windows 8 is also set to allow computers and devices to run a number of hardware using touchscreen capability and the traditional mouse/ keyword commands. Qualcomm, another big name in the tech industry, is set to team up with Microsoft to in the launch of Windows 8 by collaborating its chipsets Snapdragon processors. There are rumors that next OS from Microsoft will be some restrictions that chipmakers should be solely producing tablet PCs for the Windows 8. But as for a consumer’s point of view, the Windows 8 will most probably be available for everyone.

We have no word as to when Windows 8 will come out but Microsoft people said that they are to give the time of release as well as the price of this software sometime in September during one of the developer’s conferences. Looking at Microsoft track record, they are launching a new operating system anywhere from 24 to 36 months interval, so it’s probably going to be in October 2011 at the earliest or October 2012. Google Acquired SageTV

Just recently, the Internet giant Google has acquired yet another big player in the internet-tech industry- SageTV. SageTV is the company that is popular for its HTPC application which is SageTV Media Center for Linux, Windows and Mac OS.

The acquisition was most probably to get better technology and staffing for one of Google’s baby department- Google TV. There are rumors that the SageTV staff is also cooking up something new inside Google. For one, the previous SageTV Media Center has a number of features and that Google TV can take advantage of. Take for instance the DVR function and DVB support that SageTV offers. These may not only be the reason Google bought SageTV but they are also gearing to get the company’s technology in its entirety.

One of such technology is place shifting. This is something similar with what SIingbox has. It allows users to watch live TV or reordered programs anywhere you may be as long as you have internet connection. Although Google TV already have live TV feed features, they are lacking in being search-friendly. With SageTV acquired that will change a lot with its place-shifting features.

With SageTV and place-shifting on Google TV, you will be able to watch regular TV programs with a computer with an Internet connection. Google might even create a web application that will allow you to watch your TV live feed. With GoogleTV and SageTV on the roll, expect tablets and Android phones to showcase such features too. This can be done on its own or via a web app.

We might soon see Google TV on platforms of Windows phone and iOS. They could also use it exclusively for Android phones, we really don’t know. Hopefully they can offer its to consumers and make it non-exclusive so everyone can benefit from such technology.
